Dosage and Administration of Rybelsus (semaglutide) tablets:

Important Administration Instructions:
  • Take Rybelsus at least 30 minutes before the first food, beverage, or other oral medications of the day with no more than 4 ounces of plain water only
  • Do not take Rybelsus with food, beverages (other than plain water), or other oral medications, as it may decrease the absorption and effectiveness of the medication .
  • Swallow the tablets whole. Do not split, crush, or chew them .
Recommended Dosage:
  • Start Rybelsus with a dosage of 3 mg once daily for the first 30 days. This initial dosage is intended for treatment initiation and is not effective for glycemic control .
  • After 30 days on the 3 mg dosage, increase the dosage to 7 mg once daily.
  • If additional glycemic control is needed after at least 30 days on the 7 mg dosage, the dosage may be increased to 14 mg once daily
  • It is not recommended to take two 7 mg Rybelsus tablets to achieve a 14 mg dosage .
  • If a dose is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose the following day .
Switching Patients between Ozempic and Rybelsus:
  • Patients treated with Rybelsus 14 mg daily can be transitioned to Ozempic subcutaneous injection 0.5 mg once weekly. They can start Ozempic the day after their last dose of Rybelsus .
  • Patients treated with once-weekly Ozempic 0.5 mg subcutaneous injection can be transitioned to Rybelsus 7 mg or 14 mg. They can start Rybelsus up to 7 days after their last injection of Ozempic. There is no equivalent dose of Rybelsus for Ozempic 1 .

  • Diabetic Retinopathy: There have been reports of diabetic retinopathy complications, including diabetic retinopathy worsening or development of diabetic retinopathy in patients treated with Rybelsus. Regular eye examinations are recommended during treatment .
  • Thyroid C-cell Tumors: In animal studies, semaglutide (the active ingredient in Rybelsus) has been shown to cause thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown whether Rybelsus increases the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors in humans. Discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
  • Hypoglycemia: Although Rybelsus by itself usually does not cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), it may occur if taken with other diabetes medications. Symptoms of low blood sugar may include sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet.
